In outdoor wireless deployments—such as Point-to-Point (PTP) or Point-to-Multipoint (PTMP) connections utilizing bridge mode Access Points—the speed of the wired backhaul often becomes the limiting factor. Our LACP Link Aggregation function provides the industrial-grade solution necessary to match high-speed wireless radios with resilient, high-capacity wired links.

Eliminating the Ethernet Bottleneck

Modern outdoor wireless Access Points can achieve high-speed radio links (e.g., 300 Mbps or 240 Mbps in the example). However, if the connecting industrial switch only offers 10/100TX ports, the actual throughput is capped at 100 Mbps, wasting the radio’s capacity.

  • LACP Solution: LACP solves this by trunking two or more physical 100 Mbps or Gigabit Ethernet ports together. The LACP-enabled switch and the wireless Access Point (if it also supports LACP) negotiate a single logical link, allowing the traffic to be distributed across all member ports.
  • Result: This effectively allows the wired link to match or exceed the radio speed, delivering the higher bandwidth demanded by the application.

Bandwidth and Resilience for Wireless Applications

By combining links, the LACP function delivers dual benefits crucial for outdoor and industrial environments:

  • Bandwidth Increase: Aggregating two 100 Mbps ports yields a theoretical total throughput of up to 200 Mbps for multi-session traffic, or aggregating two 1 Gbps ports yields 2 Gbps. This is essential for high-capacity wireless backhaul between industrial sites.
  • Fault Tolerance: If one of the physical cables or switch ports fails, the remaining link(s) instantly take over the traffic load. This redundancy, known as link failover, ensures the critical wireless connection remains active, a necessity in remote or harsh operating environments.
